Two Months Old

Wow, hard to believe Avery is already two months old. Here's a pic from this morning. Amazing how much she's changed in the last month.

Avery had a two month check up on Friday. She seems to be healthy and doing everything she should be doing which is basically smiling and cooing a lot. Her neck is getting stronger but it will be awhile before she's holding her head up on her own. We will be taking her to the eye doctor to see if her eyes are developing correctly. I had big problems as a baby which I got from my dad. I'm really hoping she doesn't have all the trouble I had and also hoping she's not wearing glasses before her second birthday like me.

We've all been anxiously awaiting to hear how much she's grown. She was 10 pounds and 9 ounces (50th percentile), 23 1/4 inches long (75%), and her head was 15 1/4 inches (50%). The percentiles are about the same as they were at her one week checkup. Still long and lean!

Avery did get a couple shots which was terrible for both her and me. She was so well behaved during the appointment, but then screamed out in pain when she got the shots. One even bled. I felt so bad for her. She did get some cool shiny band-aids though.

Little Jayhawk

We've been anxious for the KU national champions shirt to fit so we tried it on yesterday. It was huge but still made for some cute pictures. I sent them to Jared and work and he got a big kick out of them.

If you've noticed a lot of smiling in pictures lately, it's because she smiles all the time. Now I'm anxious to hear her laugh. Hopefully soon.

Avery and Kate Plus 8

Yesterday Avery and Kate had a playdate at Kate's house. Okay so it was really Avery and Kate plus 1 (Kate's sister Kara), but now you can figure out what show I've been watching. This time they didn't both sleep the entire time and we managed to get a few pictures with eyes open. Avery is definitely aware of the people around her but it will be a little while before they really play together. Actually Avery really liked Kara who had her smiling from ear to ear.

As you can see Avery has a bit of catching up to do. Kate is taller and fuller and a whole clothing size bigger.

Avery was tired so I put her in Kate's swing. She was asleep within 2 minutes and slept for 45 minutes! This is a small miracle for us. Avery doesn't like her swing which is a more traditional kind of swing. Kate's is a cradle swing which moves side to side as well as front to back, and it also allows the baby to lay down more instead of being in a sitting position. And it had a mirror to look into - Avery loves mirrors. So guess who's shopping for a new swing...

Yesterday was a busy day. We also went to the hospital to see my friend Heather's new baby, Max. He was born Tuesday, exactly 8 weeks after Avery. He was 8 pounds, 8 ounces and 21.5 inches long. Max is a cutie with a head full of dark hair. I have a hard time determining who babies look like (they just look like babies to me), but I'm guessing he'll look like his dad, Travis. We'll be seeing more of them soon.

Finally, for those of you keeping track, I FINALLY had a Boulevard Wheat on Monday in celebration of my friend Kate moving back from Texas. It was even better than I remembered!

Baptism

Last Sunday Avery was baptised at the same church where Jared and I got married. Actually I was baptised there too when I was a baby, and so was my mother - she was the first person baptised in that church. Avery wore a very fancy, new dress from Grandma JoAnn. Everything went very well. She was pretty good during the ceremony. There was minimal crying, probably because she didn't want to let go of her pacifier. She complained just a little when the water was poured over her head but I think it was because she wanted her pacifier back!

Avery has two wonderful godmothers, Aunt Erika and Aunt Sarah. Many of our family members came for the occasion. After the baptism at church we all had lunch at Grandma JoAnn's house. Here are some pictures including one of the beautiful cake made by Great-Grandma Leila.

Bath Time

I thought we'd share some cute bath time photos. Avery is now taking baths in her little bathtub instead of just getting sponge baths. She is a pretty good sport about it. She tends to grimace and be pretty tense while she gets a bath, but she doesn't start crying until then end when she is cold. Last time I put the bathtub on the bathroom counter and Avery was looking at herself in the mirror. It was pretty cute.

Another accomplishment is that she is getting more accustomed to sitting by herself at times. She has really preferred to be held a lot even while sleeping, so it has been a huge relief to be able to lay her down for awhile. Her favorite is to lay in her boppy (a curved pillow) which she'll even nap in, although she also likes the bouncer (thanks to Amber and Ava for letting us borrow it, see pictures below). She is still not sold on the swing for some reason.

I am most thankful that she is a good sleeper at night. She generally sleeps through the night waking up once, sometimes twice, to eat. She does most of her night sleeping in the bassinet (pack and play) next to our bed. I am having trouble getting her to take good naps during the day, but she's doing better now that we're using the boppy. Maybe she feels more secure having something around her.

A few more cute pictures - lots of pictures today!

Hangin' with My Cousins

Avery got to see both of her cousins last weekend. Cooper is one week old and Evan is 9 months old. For the sake of Avery's safety, we couldn't let Evan get too close. He really likes her, but would play a little too rough.

Last Friday Avery had a busy day. She visited both Jared's and my offices. Of course, everyone thought she was adorable. Now that she's going about 4 hours between meals (instead of every 2 hours), we are able to get out of the house more. She's also got to see quite a few of her dad's softball games lately.

Avery doesn't have a check up for another 2 weeks so I don't know her latest measurements. I'm guessing she's around 10 pounds and about 2 feet long. She still seems so skinny. Shorts/pants/bloomers are still really big on her.
